Bike Giveaway

We are giving away part of our fleet of hardtail mountain bikes.

Read on for details about how you could be in the chance to win one of these bikes.

The Bikes

We have 40 bikes to give away in total. Every size is available, from XS to XL, suitable for riders between 148 cm and 193 cm (4’8 to 6’3) tall.

Most of these are the 2021 Merida Big Nine in a bronze colour (as pictured). They have mountain bike tyres, front suspension, and disc brakes, ideal for easy-riding gravel bike trails or commuting. The XS, S, and M frames have 27″ wheels; the L and XL have 29″ wheels.

They will have 1.5 – 2 years of good use on them but have been maintained well by our in-house mechanics. These bikes will have seen more of the Queenstown Trail than most people!

The ‘Why?’

As a bike hire operator in Queenstown, we get to see the good that getting out on bikes does for people everyday. Whether it’s starting the day with a healthy dose of activity, as a way to socialise with friends, or as a way to achieve a fitness goal, bikes are a critical tool for both your mental and physical wellbeing. They will also benefit the local community, keeping cars off the road and helping a healthy workforce with their daily commute.

We are in a fortunate position to be able to give these bikes away, and happy to do it in the knowledge they will be a great help for the Queenstown community, particularly those who may not be in a position to afford a new bike.

The ‘How?’

Simply fill in the form below and click SUBMIT. That’s it!

At the start of each month we will pull names out-of-a-hat to select the winners. If you have won, we will contact you to arrange a time for you to collect the bike from our shop in Queenstown. Too easy!

If you are one of the lucky winners, we only request two things in return:

  1.  Make a donation to the Queenstown Trails Trust by following this link. This charitable trust relies on donations to maintain its infrastructure, allowing future generations to enjoy the trail network.
  2. Send us a photo of yourself using the bike on the local trails:

The T’s and C’s

  • Forms can be submitted between 24 April 2024 and 30 June 2024.
  • Only one form is to be submitted per person. Please do not submit more than one.
  • The draws will happen at the start of May, June, and July 2024. If your name was not selected, it will automatically go in the draw for the next month.
  • If you win a bike, we require a proof of donation (to the value of your choice) to the Queenstown Trails Trust when you collect the bike.
  • Bikes must be collected from Around The Basin’s shop in Queenstown. We will not arrange shipping for you.
  • We are giving away the bikes “as is”. We will not be responsible for any ongoing maintenance of the bike.
  • We are not giving away any children’s bikes or E-bikes. Riders will have to be at least 148 cm tall to fit the smallest bike (XS).
  • These hardtail bikes (front-suspension only) are not suitable for technical downhill biking trails (like the Skyline Gondola).
  • The bikes are meant as a gift. Please do not sell them on.
