Experience one of the most picturesque cycling trails in the Queenstown region. Begin with a short shuttle to Arrowtown, then enjoy a relaxed 14 km ride through riverside trails, past vineyards, and over swing bridges. The journey ends in Gibbston Valley, where you can take in the scenery or enjoy a tasting before your return to Queenstown.

The Arrowtown to Gibbston Ride is one of the great as a family-friendly cycling experiences or for those wanting a Half Day Adventure in Queenstown. This scenic undulating trail offering a fun, one-way ride with river views, swing bridges, and wide gravel paths. 

It’s a great way to get outdoors, explore at your own pace, and enjoy a little adventure together – without needing to ride back the way you came.

What to Expect

After checking in at our Queenstown shop, your day begins with a 25-minute shuttle ride to Arrowtown. Once there, we’ll fit your group with:
  • High-quality Mountain bikes or E-bikes
  • Helmets and a trail map
  • A safety briefing and tips to make the most of your ride
From Arrowtown, the ride follows the beautiful Arrow River Bridges Trail, which winds through open farmland, riverside paths, and across two impressive suspension bridges – a real highlight for the kids! The ride ends near Gibbston, where we’ll meet you with the return shuttle back to Queenstown.

What If the Weather Turns?

The weather in Queenstown can shift quickly. We assess trail conditions on the day of your ride. If you’re unsure, give us a call 45 minutes to 1 hour before your shuttle departs, and we’ll review the forecast with you.

If the weather is unsafe for riding, we’ll do our best to reschedule, or provide a refund (minus a 3% transaction fee) if needed.

Final Tips for Families

  • Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and extra layers
  • E-bikes are great for adults or older kids who want a boost
  • Pack a small backpack for jackets or essentials
  • We have trailers or tag-alongs for younger children (you can add these at the checkout)
 
Please Note: The Big Day Out, Arrowtown to Queenstown and The Hugo Tunnel Loop rides are not advised for children as they are a large distance and have hilly terrain.

 

Child Electric Bikes (8-14 years)

We have 24″ or 26″ E-Bikes. Children must be at least 135 cm/4 ft 6″ tall and capable riders.

 

Child Mountain Bikes (5-14 years)

We have  16″, 20″, or 24″ bikes; or XS, S, M adult bikes.

 

Infants (0-4 years)

We have either Child Trailers or Tag-A-Longs/Half-Bikes. Please be aware that tag-a-longs/half-bikes require balance and the skills to hold on independently. 

Child Trailer

Our preference is for infants to use Child Trailers. They are stable and safe, and can fit either two small infants (<20kg) or one larger infant (<40kg).
