Bike The Wineries Half Day

Self-Guided Ride in the Gibbston Wine Valley

Return Shuttles Ride Starts at Arrow Junction 6 – 17 km Ride Time for 2 or 3 Wineries

Ride Description

Start your afternoon with a midday pick-up from Around The Basin’s shop in Queenstown and a scenic bus transfer to Arrow Junction, 7km outside Arrowtown. After a bike fitting, helmet, trail map, and briefing, you’re all set to ride. The adventure begins with a 6km trail through the Arrow River Gorge, crossing the Edgar Swing Bridge and the world-famous Kawarau Bungy Bridge — the gateway to Gibbston’s wine country.

From there, take your time exploring the Gibbston River Trail at your own pace. With a winery map in hand, visit as many cellar doors as you like. From tastings and platters to a pint at the tavern, there’s something for everyone along this relaxed, scenic trail.

Additional Information

This ride is ideal for an easy afternoon out and suits all abilities. The trail is wide, well-maintained, and undulating, making it fun and accessible. Ride as little or as much as you like — the total distance ranges from 6 to 17 km depending on how many stops you choose to make. You’ll be picked up at 4:30 pm from your final winery stop and shuttled back to Queenstown.

We are yet to hear anyone say “I wish I never upgraded to an electric bike”, but we have certainly heard the opposite! Guarantee the good times, keep your group together and have a fun day out there. E-bikes are a game changer and make this ride so much more fun!

If you want to see Arrowtown, ride a bit further, experience awesome suspension bridges, and have more winery time, then take a look at our Bike The Wineries Full Day ride or Bike The Wineries 3/4 Day if you’d prefer a later start!

Or if wine tastings don’t float your boat, and you’re after an epic adventure, check out the Arrowtown To Gibbston Valley ride.

Venues in the Gibbston Valley: wineries, a tavern and good food.

Gibbston Valley Winery

The most well-known winery in the valley. Enjoy their cheesery or visit the cellar door for a tasting. Beautiful outdoor area to be enjoyed.

Kinross

A stunning setting with a lovely outdoor area to enjoy. Great food and wine are available here.

The Church

Built in Wangaloa in 1894, this old church was relocated to Gibbston in the early 2000’s. Today instead of hymns and sermons it serves up local wines and good vibes. Our standard pick up location for a reason.

Gibbston Tavern

The Tavern is full of character and serves delicious wood-fired pizzas. A great place to relax. Hank, their dog, will be sure to give you a warm welcome.

Rockburn

The Rockburn Cellar Door offers relaxed tastings of their award winning wines in a unique setting, at the iconic Gibbston Tavern. A pure expression of Central Otago in your glass.

GT Tasting Room

The newest addition to the valley, and little sister of the Gibbston Tavern, the GT Tasting Room offers a selection of local wines, gins, distilled spirits, and ginger beers.

Brennan Wines

A great place to visit, Brennan is located at the end of the valley. While you’re here, have a go at petanque.

Mt Rosa

Full of personality, Mt Rosa is located at the end of the valley and is certainly worth the effort to visit. Tastings here are extensive, so allow approximately 40 mins.

Waitiri Creek

Set in a beautifully restored woolshed off the Gibbston Back Road, Waitiri offers wine tastings or refreshing beverages, along with food platters and gourmet toasties.
