Hywel, originally from Wales, made the move to New Zealand 5 years ago because of his enthusiasm for exploring the great outdoors. Queenstown was the natural place to settle with easy access to the wilderness and adventures right on the doorstep. He joined the team at Around The Basin to show visitors what the Queenstown Trail has to offer and to work alongside “good Kiwi sorts”.

When not at work, Hywel can be found running over hilly trails or hiking around the nearby mountains that we get to call home.

Born and bred in the UK, Louise moved to New Zealand for the summer of 2017 after finishing a degree in human geography and quickly being bored of her office job in London.  Ready for adventure, her first escapade onto the mechanical bull in Cowboys resulted in a fractured vertebra.  However, that didn’t stop her from settling into life in Queenstown in all its activity-laden glory; Winnie, as she has affectionately become known, has since taken up rock climbing, mountain biking and being an all-round snow shredder. Loving the new freedom of living in the mountains and all the activities still to try and adventures to be had, she is not planning on leaving any time soon!

Originally from the North Island of New Zealand, Hamish has been living down south for the last 7 years. On completing his degree at Otago University he moved to Wanaka to pursue his passion for multi sport racing. After 3 years of elite racing, both in New Zealand and overseas, Hamish made the move to Queenstown to take up a position with Around The Basin. Hamish is still heavily involved in multi sport racing and when not working can often be seen training on the Queenstown trails.

Lisa was born in Queenstown and spent her early childhood here.

Some would say this town never leaves the blood and Lisa returned to settle here 25 years ago.

She has always enjoyed the outdoors and keeping fit through running, cycling and skiing. Lisa and her partner Steve Norton are well settled in Queenstown and with their two children enjoy making the most of all that Queenstown has to offer.

Lisa’s job at Around The Basin Bike Tours gives her the chance to encompass all her interests and enjoy the amazing environment she is fortunate enough to live in….what more could you ask for!

Steve Norton settled in Queenstown 28 years ago, originally attracted by the white water kayaking and skiing but stayed for the beauty and diversity of the town. He established New Zealand’s biggest paragliding school and flew tandem paragliders for over 12 years. Steve has also established and owned a restaurant and managed bus and gas companies.

Steve is Managing Director of Around The Basin, helping oversee the day to day operation. In his spare time he teaches racing kayaking and enjoys competing in cycling and multi sport races. His partner is Lisa Cooper, operations manager for the business together they have two children Isabella and Isaac.
